Meth Addiction Treatment in Seattle

Treating Patients Nationally from Our Seattle, WA Center

The Schick Shadel methamphetamine (or “meth”) treatment program offers medical care to help addicts stop the devastating cycle of meth addiction. We know that meth addiction is neurological and that meth is a habit-forming substance. Our 80 years of research into alcohol addiction has confirmed that our counter conditioning treatment produces results. Our medically-based program for meth addiction was built by pairing a previously pleasurable drug with a negative consequence to achieve a great outcome of success and the principles of aversion treatment.

Methamphetamine & the Brain

Meth use releases the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain area associated with pleasure receptors, producing a powerful “high.” Over time, the brain responds to meth use by reducing the number of dopamine receptors in the brain, thus increasing the amount and frequency of use of methamphetamine needed for a “high.”

A “crash” results when the effects of meth dissipates. This chemical crash causes the meth addict to seek more of the drug and creates a cycle of addiction to meth. The Schick Shadel meth treatment program addresses the physical causes of meth dependence to eliminate, neutralize, and/or extinguish drug craving (hunger) in just 10 days.

Schick Shadel Hospital is staffed by addiction medicine specialty physicians, caring nurses, and Certified Addiction Therapists. Addiction medicine specialty physicians are certified by the American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and/or the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in Psychiatry and Addiction.

Our meth treatment program recognizes that meth addiction requires careful medical treatment. Schick Shadel Hospital drug treatment offers medical treatment, psychological counseling, drug and alcohol education and relapse prevention planning to address all of the inputs to meth dependence. The inpatient phase of our meth treatment program can be completed in just 10 days. Patients return to the hospital at about 30 and 90 days post-discharge to receive follow-up reinforcement sessions, rehabilitation interviews, and counseling sessions and educational lectures.
