Drug Overdoses Increasing Rate of Death in Young White Adults

Mourning FamilyIn a recent analysis of death certificates conducted by the New York Times, it was found that drug overdoses are increasing the date of death in young white adults.

The study shows that the death rate in white adults, ages 25 to 34, is higher than the generation preceding it. This is the first generation since the Vietnam War years to experience this. The study was based on roughly 60 million death certificates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranging from 1990 to 2014. It showed death rates for other races continued to fall.

The main reason for the increase: drug overdose. The analysis of these documents shows that from 1999 to 2014, the number of young white adults ages 25 to 34 dying as a result of overdose increased five times its level. The rate for white adults ages 35 to 44 tripled in the same time period.

The numbers show the growing amount of people who have become addicted to illegal drugs and prescription painkillers. Drug abuse is increasing the mortality rate in America and it is leaving sad stories for many families.

Individuals who are addicted to drugs need to find a way to break the statistic and stray away from the possibility of an overdose death.
