Your family is supposed to be your support during this difficult time in your journey. This is the support you need to make the right decisions regarding which parties to attend, which drinks you should have, and what to do if you feel you may relapse.
Arrive Late, Leave Early
It may seem like a bad thing to do, showing up late to a party only to leave so early. At the end of the day, it shouldn’t matter how you are perceived. What matters most is your ability to control your own environment; thus controlling your own sobriety. By arriving late to parties and leaving early, you are giving yourself enough time to see your friends, but also helping to reduce the amount of time you have to drink.
Be Thankful of Your Sobriety
Take the time to be thankful of your sobriety. Thank everyone around you who has supported you in this journey to recovery. Be thankful that you are pushing through the obstacles that you face, not just during the holidays, but each and every day. You shouldn’t feel bad for passing up on a drink; rather, you should rejoice with how far you’ve come and consider all of the great things in your sober life.
