Prescription Opioids ( MSContin, Percocet, Vicodin, OxyContin) Treatment Program

Schick Shadel's prescription opioid, OxyContin treatment program is a Counter Conditioning based program for those addicted to smoking, swallowing and/or inhaling OxyContin and other prescription opioids. The smoking and snorting of powdered ( ground-up) prescription OxyContin is an increasing source of opioid dependency; Smoked and snorted OxyContin produces intense euphoria very rapidly, The very fast delivery of a large dose of an opioid like OxyContin to the brain is a very powerful reinforcer for continued use of the drug. OxyContin dependency has proven to be highly resistant to treatment via conventional therapies.

Medical Detox Services

OxyContin medical detoxification includes monitoring and administering medical treatment to patients experiencing OxyContin withdrawal symptoms. The length of the detoxification period varies for each individual, but for OxyContin addiction, often takes 3 to 5 days. Some symptoms of OxyContin withdrawal can include racing pulse or heart rate, fatigue, hot and/or cold sweats, anxiety, yawning, depression, insomnia, nausea/vomiting, muscle and joint aches and pains, often times experienced as flu-like symptoms and diarrhea.

Schick Shadel Hospital's OxyContin detoxification treatment provides patients with a safe, comfortable transition through the withdrawal period. Physicians certified in addiction medicine direct individualized detoxification treatment for each patient. Registered nurses, with many years of training and experience, provide compassionate care for patients. Our safe detoxification techniques help mitigate OxyContin withdrawal symptoms. Our staff administers medications to counteract uncomfortable symptoms, pays attention to nutritional repair, provides treatment for other medical problems, and assesses the patient's ongoing needs following OxyContin detoxification.

Counter Conditioning Treatment for OxyContin Addiction

Our OxyContin treatment program is based on over 75 years of research from our # 1 success-rated alcohol treatment program, which demonstrated that addiction is a neurological disease benefiting from medical based treatment. Schick Shadel's OxyContin treatment program addresses the biological and medical causes of addiction in addition to the psychological and environmental. The goal of the aversion treatment is to neutralize the drug hunger/cravings that develop with the repeated use of a highly reinforcing drug like an opioid. Patients can expect to eliminate craving, or at the least have them significantly attenuated with aversion treatments. Free of cravings, both cue induced and free floating intrusive thoughts, the patient can comfortably pursue recovery and relapse prevention strategies.

Schick Shadel Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day by experienced, professional physicians, nurses and counselors. Physicians are American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) certified specialists and/or American Board of Medical Specialist (ABMS) certified. Our OxyContin treatment program provides medical treatment and substance use counseling simultaneously, to address the inputs to addiction.

During treatment, patients receive both individual and group counseling. The initial OxyContin treatment program can be completed in ten days after complete detoxification (six days after the last dose of opioid). Patients will recieve up to four reinforcement sessions based on doctor recommendation. Recovery and relapse prevention plans are reviewed and updated as indicated. Rehabilitation Interviews are a part of both initial inpatient and follow-up visit stays. These sedative assisted hypnotherapeutic sessions assist in monitoring one's aversion, confirming histories, enhancing positive cognitions, and providing a relaxing and restorative respite.

Discharge Planning

Each treatment plan contains steps to encourage recovery and build on patient strengths after discharge. Counseling for discharge planning helps our patients to stay away from potential relapse, while aversion allows patients to avoid using OxyContin. Our patients learn to focus on true friends, to use people for support when experiencing negative feelings and to avoid people, places and activities that were strongly associated with their addiction.

Schick Shadel provides follow-up care after discharge from the OxyContin treatment program. Our caring staff contacts patients regularly to encourage them to remain drug-free. After hospital treatment, patients can contact a counselor anytime it's necessary.

Involvement with support groups is encouraged.

Patients will recieve up to four reinforcement sessions based on doctor recommendation. During these follow-ups, aversion conditioning reinforcements and rehabilitation interviews are conducted as well as an update to the recovery and relapse prevention plans. The booster reinforcement aversion treatments strengthen, maintain and lengthen the patient's aversion, continuing to provide protection against cue response craving and free floating intrusive drug hunger.

Continuing Care Program

Counter Conditioning is not a "silver bullet" for OxyContin addiction. Schick Shadel's professional counselors help patients create a continuing care plan for a successful life without OxyContin. The continuing care plan will helps patients change their lifestyle and solve problems. Continuing care helps patients build open, honest relationships with people they love. Our goal is to help patients change their lifestyle and guide them toward personal growth and non-chemical rewards. Patients receive support through both their continuing care plan and the Schick Shadel OxyContin treatment program. Intensive educational meetings are available for the patients and family members.
